Shearers quarters

We have 5 budget rooms available at the Shearer’s Quarters located adjacent to the Main House at the Main Homestead. These rooms are clean, basic sleeping accommodation and can sleep 4 to 5 people per room.

Guests have access to shared shed camping area kitchen and ablution facilities adjacent, with toilets, showers and disabled facilities. Basic linen provided, guests need to bring their own bedding and towels.

These rooms contain trio beds, that is, 1 double bed with a single bed, bunk style, above it.

The shearing shed camp kitchen has a fridge, sink, gas BBQ, electric stove, urn, toaster, ceiling fans, pot belly stove, a large deck area, tables and chairs, crockery and cutlery and rainwater supply. Adjacent to the Shed is a clean ablution block with hot showers and toilets.

You will need to bring along your own food. The closest shops are in Northampton (65km), Kalbarri (80km) and fuel and limited groceries are available from the Binnu store (25km).

Coolabah complex

The Coolabah Complex is located at the main homestead and consists of a one bedroom self-contained unit with 2 additional bedrooms adjacent.

Coolabah 1 has one bedroom with a double bed and a double bed sofa bed in the lounge area. It has its own shower and toilet and basic kitchen facilities including fridge, microwave, sink and cutlery/crockery.

The two adjacent bedrooms contain 1 double bed and 2 single beds each.

Broad acre dry farming

A chance to see seasonal farming operations, some of the large machinery needed to crop some of the biggest paddocks you’ll ever see and you may even get a ride in a harvester.

Landcare

The work that has made this property an award winner. Thousands of trees have been planted in the last two decades and many areas of remnant vegetation have been protected.

Bush and wildflowers

Great photo opportunities! Brilliant carpets of wildflowers are just one part of the amazing diversity the vegetation on Riverside exhibits. There is always something flowering in the bush and many species have been collated for our own herbarium.

Native fauna

There are always plenty of native animals to see, including the pets and marsupials at night (see marsupial spotlighting).

Mining heritage

From some of Western Australia’s first mines. The first lead mines operated in this area and you can visit the historic mines of Geraldine and Galena and hear their stories from a very knowledgeable guide and local historian.

Local indigenous history

A number of protected Aboriginal sites are present on Riverside Sanctuary. See the stones used for grinding food and discover the seeds used for food and other types of bush tucker.

Self-guided walking

A number of trails have been created around the homestead, Donkey Hills and the river for guests to use.

The river area has regenerated very well naturally just from protection and many water birds nest and live there.

BBQ slide show

We have a series of fascinating ‘before and after’ slides documenting the recovery of the vegetation in the river system after the removal of sheep.

These slides are often shown to guests after a BBQ in the (now defunct for shearing) Shearing Shed.
